Echologics Names Dr. Werner Richarz Chief Acoustical Engineer

November 16, 2011

ATLANTA, Nov. 16, 2011 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Echologics, a leading developer of acoustic-based technologies for water loss management, leak detection, and pipe condition assessment, has named Dr. Werner Richarz, Chief Acoustical Engineer.

Dr. Richarz holds four engineering patents and has published more than 30 research papers on acoustics and aerodynamics. In this new position, Dr. Richarz will focus on enhancing the sound and vibration features of Echologics' proprietary, acoustic-based system that non-invasively locates leaks and assesses the structural condition of both water and force mains. Additionally, he will help guide Echologics' use of cross-correlations in source location and theoretical modeling of sound propagation in liquid filled pipes for future products and services.

"Dr. Richarz is a renowned engineer whose research and expertise have significantly contributed to the advanced application of acoustics across a number of industries," said Marc Bracken, vice president and general manager of Echologics. "His knowledge and experience in this discipline make him an invaluable addition to the Echologics research and development team, as we continue to enhance and develop technologies that can help municipalities to reduce water loss and improve operations—without breaking ground or disrupting service."

Dr. Richarz has held senior engineering and consultative roles at various organizations, including NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory, Aercoustics Engineering Ltd., Pinchin Environmental Inc., M&I Air System Engineering, and Coolbreeze Air Conditioning and Heating.

After earning his doctorate in Aerospace Engineering from the University of Toronto in 1978, Dr. Richarz held academic appointments at the University of Toronto's Institute for Aerospace Studies and Carleton University's Department of Mechanical & Aerospace Engineering, where he focused his research on aerodynamic noise generation, noise control and numerical methods for high speed flows. He is a Fellow of the Acoustical Society of America.

Echologics is a subsidiary of Mueller Water Products, Inc. (NYSE:MWA), a leading North American manufacturer and marketer of products and services that are used in the transmission, distribution and measurement of safe, clean drinking water, and in water treatment facilities. Water service providers across North America, Europe, South Africa, Asia and Australia have leveraged Echologics' technology to prioritize pipeline rehabilitation and replacement plans, and reduce water loss on all classes of pipes, for diameters ranging from 4 inches to 108 inches.
